Circular design

At Atomis Architectural Lighting we believe that real innovation only begins when engineering and circularity come together. Circular design is not a marketing term or a side issue for us, but a fundamental principle in everything we develop. It determines how our luminaires are built, which materials we choose and how we think about a product's full life cycle.

Circular design

From linear to circular thinking

Traditionally, lighting was designed according to a linear model: produce, install, use and eventually replace. That model no longer fits today's challenges. Raw materials are becoming scarcer, sustainability requirements stricter, and organisations are looking for future-proof solutions. Atomis has therefore deliberately chosen a circular approach, designing luminaires so that they remain usable for a long time and can easily be adapted to changing needs.

Our luminaires are modular and fully demountable. This means essential components such as LED modules, drivers and optical elements can be replaced, repaired or upgraded individually. Instead of writing off a complete luminaire, the base is retained and only the necessary parts are renewed. This significantly extends the lifespan and reduces waste streams.

Considered material choice

Circularity starts with material choice. Atomis works with high-quality, recyclable materials that are not only technically reliable but also suitable for reuse at the end of their life. Aluminium plays an important role here: it is light, strong, corrosion-resistant and infinitely recyclable without loss of quality.

We also consider material separability in the design. Parts are constructed so they can be easily taken apart, without complex bonding or unnecessary material combinations. This makes recycling more efficient and increases the chance that raw materials are actually reused.

Energy efficiency as an integral part

A circular luminaire is sustainable not only in material use but also in energy consumption. Atomis luminaires are designed with a strong focus on energy efficiency, without compromising on light quality. By applying high-quality LED technology, efficient drivers and precisely designed optics, we achieve a high light output per watt.

This results in lower energy costs for the user and a lower COâ‚‚ footprint during the use phase, which often accounts for the largest part of the environmental impact. Combined with a long lifespan and maintenance-friendly construction, this creates a lighting application that is both economically and ecologically responsible.

Ease of maintenance and future-readiness

In many buildings, the function of spaces changes faster than ever. Offices become more flexible, shops are re-laid out and museums regularly adapt exhibitions. Our circular luminaires respond to this with flexibility in use and maintenance.

Thanks to the modular construction, lighting characteristics can be adjusted without replacing the entire luminaire. Think of swapping an optic for a different beam, upgrading LED modules to a higher efficiency or adapting the light colour to new requirements. This keeps lighting moving with the times.

Supporting sustainability goals

More and more organisations set concrete sustainability targets for COâ‚‚ reduction, circularity and responsible procurement. With circularly designed lighting, Atomis helps make these ambitions a reality. Our solutions contribute to certifications and sustainability reporting and offer a demonstrably lower environmental impact across the full life cycle.

With Atomis you choose future-proof lighting. Technically considered. Circularly designed. Lighting that not only meets the needs of today, but stays relevant tomorrow.
