Sustainability at Atomis

The majority of our luminaires are entirely designed, produced and assembled in the Netherlands. This local approach offers major advantages for both sustainability and quality. Short chains mean significantly fewer transport movements, which directly results in lower CO₂ emissions and a smaller ecological footprint. In addition, producing close to home allows us to continuously oversee the complete process — from material procurement to final inspection.

By combining craftsmanship with modern production techniques, we can produce high-quality luminaires that meet strict European standards. But just as important: thanks to our cooperation with social employment partners, our Dutch production also contributes to social impact. People with a distance to the labour market are given a structural place at Atomis within the assembly and quality process. In this way we create lighting products that are sustainable not only in their material use, but also in their social value.

Every luminaire that leaves our workshop is the result of a conscious, high-quality and responsible production process — and that makes the difference in a market where sustainability weighs ever more heavily.

Smart packaging, circular delivery: minimal packaging and take-back for a cleaner construction site and faster logistics

Atomis works with a packaging strategy aimed at minimal environmental impact. Where possible, our luminaires are delivered in specially designed roll containers in which fragile parts can be transported safely without excessive packaging material. All packaging that is needed, we take back on delivery so it can be cleaned, reused or responsibly recycled. This closed packaging process prevents waste streams on the construction site and creates an efficient, sustainable logistics chain from factory to end user.

Depending on the project, we can produce luminaires with an increased percentage of recycled material. For aluminium the recycled content is already high by default and can — depending on the desired production method, tube diameter and extrusion profile — rise to at least 76% recycled aluminium.

In addition, for specific product lines and project requests, it is possible to apply components made from EAF steel (Electric Arc Furnace steel). This type of steel is produced with significantly lower CO₂ emissions by using electric melting with a high content of recycled metal. This allows us to respond per project to stricter sustainability goals or BREEAM and ESG requirements.
